In the novel Death on the Nile, Wode Hall was the country estate in Malton-under-Wode owned by Linnet Ridgeway in the village of Malton-under-Wode. She bought it from Sir George Wode after he went bankrupt. Linnet had reportedly paid sixty thousand pounds (over 4 million in 2020) for the estate. Her purchase was a matter of great excitement for some in the village as she would bring a lot of money in. Village gossip was that she could be expected to spend another sixty thousand on renovations.
