Winterbrook is a small hamlet in the parish of Cholsey, Oxfordshire, bordering the Thames on its east side, and at the southern end of Wallingford. The hamlet has an interesting history, going back to the Bronze Age, and distinctive character, with fine houses from the 18th and 19th century, and a farming tradition. The tranquil area, lined by mature trees, attracted novelist Agatha Christie and her archaeologist husband Max Mallowan when they were looking for a weekend home during the time they were working in London. They wanted a house on the river Thames and Agatha Christie spotted Winterbrook House up for sale and they purchased it in 1934. Winterbrook is on the "Agatha Christie Trail" established by the town of Wallingford. Beginning from Wallingford, the trail takes one past Winterbrook and Winterbrook House and then to Cholsey where Agatha Christie's grave is located.
Everybody's reason to come to Winterbrook. Agatha Christie lived and died at Winterbrook House. This house is typical of the many brick houses along the road at Winterbrook.
