In the novel Towards Zero, Mr Justice, Sir William Cleaver is a judge and was a friend of Mr Treves. He is part of Mr Treves' circle of legal friends. They had gathered at the beginning of the novel to discuss legal matters and the latest cases in the courts such as the Lamorne case handled by their colleagues Depleach and Arthur. As Mr Treves took his leave, the rest noted that he seemed to be aging. Cleaver remarked that Treves has "an acute brain—a very acute brain—but Anno Domini tells in the end".
