In the novel The Body in the Library, William Booker is a builder in St. Mary Mead.

He has built several sham Tudor cottages on a new housing estate along the Lansham Road about a quarter of a mile outside the village proper and just beyond the Blue Boar. One of cottages, “Chatsworth”, had been rented by Basil Blake, who calls the place “The Period Piece”. The villagers call it “Mr Booker's new house”.
