Locations in Westshire[]

Location of Westshire[]

The location of Westshire is not stated but there are some hints in the text. To get to Hamborough St John from London, one departs from St Pancras Station which serves the Midlands. Poirot is told to stop the train at Whimperley. A train which departs from St Pancras at 4.30 pm reached Whimperley at 7.50 pm, an elapsed time of 3 hours 20 minutes. At the lower end of 60 mph for an express train in the 1930s, this is a distance of some 200 miles. This suggests a location somewhere equivalent to Staffordshire, Warwickshire or the West Riding of Yorkshire.
