In the novel Crooked House, Three Gables (AKA The Crooked House) was the house owned by Aristide Leonides, the patriach of the Leonides family. The house is located in Swinly Dean, an outer suburb of London. Mr Aristide lives there with his descendants. Philip and his wife Magda have lived there with their children since 1938. Roger and his wife Clemency moved there after their home was bombed early in the war.
After the death of his first wife Aristide invited his sister-in-law to live there and help bring up the children. She unwillingly accepted his offer.
