In the short story Greenshaw's Folly, Thomas Pollock was the grandfather of Alfred, the gardener of Greenshaw's Folly. Local gossip said that Thomas was an illegitimate son of Nathaniel Greenshaw.

Thomas Pollock is also mentioned in the 2013 ITV adaptation of Greenshaw's Folly but here his relationship to the Greenshaw family is different.
At some time in the past, Katherine Greenshaw had an unmarried union with Thomas and they had an illegitimate son Alfred Pollock. So in this adaptation, Alfred is not a descendent from a separate branch of the family tree resulting from a "byblow" but a direct offspring of Miss Greenshaw. Thomas does not appear in the episode in person but his name can be seen on Alfred's birth certificate.
