In the novel And Then There Were None, Sir Thomas Legge is the Assistant Commissioner at Scotland Yard. He oversees the investigation of the deaths on Soldier Island. He is the superior of Inspector Maine who handles the ground enquiries. He and Maine favour the theory that one of the ten people on the island killed the rest and then committed suicide. But this theory had its weaknesses (see here for details). Ultimately the police are unable to discover the killer.
