In the novel The Sittaford Mystery, the Nook is the name of the home of Martin and Sylvia Dering. The house is situated on Surrey Road in Wimbledon. Inspector Narracott travelled up from Exeter and called at the address to interview Sylvia Dering. He returned later to interview Martin Dering. While waiting in the "rather overcrowded drawing room" to see Martin, Narracott picked up a book with the name Martha Rycroft written on the flyleaf. This was later to prove helpful in establishing the web of relationships among the main suspects in the case.

Narracott observed that there were "no signs of shabbiness about The Nook". He described it as "new and shoddy".
