In the novel At Bertram's Hotel, The Marchioness of Barlow is a guest at Bertram's Hotel. Miss Gorringe mentioned her as a contrast to Miss Marple. Chief Inspector Davy had mentioned that Miss Marple might "almost be on the stage.... Everybody's universal greataunt." Miss Gorringe replied that the contemporary great aunts, grandmothers nor great-grandmothers were not much like that. The Marchioness of Barlow had come in the day before from Paris and Miss Gorringe had not recognised her. Although a great-grandmother, the Marchioness had "a mask of pink and white" and platinum blonde hair with "an entirely false figure", but she "looked wonderful."
