THE INVINCIBLE MISS MARPLE
BY AGATHA CHRISTIE
When Agatha Christie died on January 12, 1976, at the age of 85, she was the Grande Dame of detective writers--and a worldwide bestselling author. In The Invincible Miss Marple, Christie's indomitable heroine is at the top of her form in three superb mysteries guaranteed to keep you guessing to the very last page!
A Murder Is Announced. On an autumn day, the personal column of the Chipping Cleghorn Gazette lists a most unusual notice: "A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, October 29, at Little Paddocks, at 6:30 p.m." Is Miss Letitia Blacklock planning an innocent parlor game of mock murder? Or are her young cousins, now in residence, playing a game of their own? The curious guests thrill to an unexpected holdup. But the shots--and the body--are real! With Miss Marple on the case, it's only a matter of time until the name of the murderer, too, is announced.
The Body in the Library. She was dressed to kill-a platinum blond corpse in a spangled satin dress sprawled across the old bearskin hearthrug in Colonel Bantry's library. Had the stuffy old Colonel been dallying on the side? Or did someone set him up for murder? Mrs Bantry brings in her good friend Jane Marple, much to the chagrin of local police. A photo found in the victim's hand-bag is the first clue that points to Basil Blake, a neighbor known for fast living, flashy blonds and film industry connections. The suspects--and the bodies multiply as Miss Marple builds a trap to catch a killer--before he strikes again!
Murder with Mirrors. Everything that seems true is an illusion as Miss Marple, under false premises, accepts an invitation to Stonygates to check up on Carrie Louise Serrocold, a girlhood chum who may be in trouble. The old Gothic monstrosity now houses a reform school, plus assorted relatives, friends and retainers--all of whom love Carrie Louise but would have something to gain by her death. Her stepson suspects that someone is tainting her tonic with arsenic, but before he can do anything about it, he's shot to death! Then another murder is committed. And another. It's a conjurer's trick with a fatal finish... until Miss Marple works her own brand of magic to catch a killer in cold blood!
