In the novel The Hollow, The Hollow is the estate of Sir Henry and Lady Angkatell. In that Sir Henry was ex-governor of the Hollowene Islands, it is possible that the names are related.
Much of the plot of the book concerns events when Sir Henry and Lady Angkatell invite friends and relatives for a houseparty at which Dr. John Christow is murdered.
The Hollow is located in the county of "Wealdshire". Veronica Cray notes that the place is near London. Given the word "weald" and the mention of "Shovel Down", it is possible that the Hollow is in Surrey or Kent as weald and down are common terms which apply to the topography in these counties. The nearest town is Market Depleach.
Neighbouring properties are small cottages Resthaven and Dovecotes.
