In the novel A Pocket Full of Rye, the Golf Hotel is one of the hotels in Baydon Heath. Both Vivian Dubois and Gerald Wright stay there during the events in the book. The exact location of the hotel is not stated but it is within walking distance of Yewtree Lodge, the residence of the Fortescue family. As Baydon Health has three golf courses, it is likely that the Golf Hotel was built to serve golfers playing at one or several of the courses.
The highly religious Miss Ramsbottom, sister-in-law of Rex Fortescue did not regard the Golf Hotel suitable lodging for Miss Marple. To Miss Ramsbottom, the hotels was a “wicked nest of profiteers, that is. Drinking and card playing all the evening.” She insisted that Miss Marple stay as her guest at Yewtree Lodge.
