In the novel Sleeping Murder, the Elworthy family were four sisters and a brother. They were living at Hillside before Major and Mrs Hengrave. The family was low church and very interested in missionary work.
The sisters found the name of the house, St Catherines, Popish and renamed it Hillside. The last of the sisters sold the house to the Hengraves. She was in excellent health and planned to go abroad to do missionary work.
