In the short story The Dead Harlequin, The Ant Heap is a water-colour painting by Frank Bristow. The small painting depicts Westminster Bridge with its crowd of buses, trams, and hurrying pedestrians.
Mr Satterthwaite saw the painting at the Harchester Galleries on Bond Street.
