In the short story The Arcadian Deer, Ted Williamson is a garage hand working in the village of Hartly Dene. He had been fixing Poirot's car which had broken down near the village. He then took the opportunity to ask Poirot to help him find a girl whom he had met and fallen in love with but who had disappeared.
Williamson knew very little about her. He had been called to "Grasslawn", a house belonging to Sir George Sanderfield, to fix a broken radio. There he had met a beautiful foreign girl who claimed to be "Nita", a lady's-maid for a Russian dancer. They had spent some time walking along the river and arranged to meet when her mistress next came to Grasslawn a fortnight later. However she did not show up at the appointed time and he never saw her again.
Despite the apparent hopelessness of the case, Poirot agreed to help, mainly because he was on the lookout for cases which matched his intention to fulfill twelve cases which matched the Labours of Heracles. In this case, Tew Williamson was handsome and had fine physique. He was "a simple young man with the outward semblance of a Greek god." He reminded Poirot of a shepherd in Arcady and the search for the girl would be an analogy for the hunt for the Arcadian deer.
