Taxine is a group of alkaloids found in plants in the yew family. The poisonous substance is found in most parts of the plant but the seeds contain the highest concentration. Even dried or dead parts of the plant contain taxine molecules. Symptoms of taxine poisoning include irregular heartbeat, dizziness, headache, and shortness of breath. After ingestion of a lethal dose, death occurs from cardiac failure, cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. There is no antidote for taxine but interestingly atropine, a poison in itself, is used to treat symptoms.
