In the novel After the Funeral, Superintendent Parwell was a senior police officer based at Matchfield and who had jurisdiction over Enderby Hall. Dr Larraby called him after Helen Abernethie had been struck on the head there. Parwell then proceeded to Enderby to make enquiries. He was accompanied by Inspector Morton who had come up from Lytchett St Mary to ask the people at Enderby some questions about the murder of Cora Lansquenet.
