In the novel Evil Under the Sun, Sunny Ledge is a series of recesses cutting on a cliff on Smugglers' Island. Niches have been cut into the stone forming seats, overlooking the sea.
On the day of the murder of Arlena Marshall, Rosamund Darnley went to Sunny Ledge after breakfast. She brought some books and a sunshade. She was observed by Patrick Redfern and Emily Brewster, who were rowing below the cliff. Miss Darnley claimed to have left the ledge after some time, walking back to the hotel. There she observed Kenneth Marshall in his room, giving him an alibi. Poirot felt that something about the alibi wasn’t right.
