In the novel Death on the Nile, Sterndale Rockford is a business partner of Andrew Pennington. Like Pennington, he is "tall, spare, with greying hair", and a clean-shaven, clever face. He was also one of Linnet Ridgeway's trustees.

In the 1978 Ustinov film adaptation, Sterndale Rockford is portrayed by Sam Wanamaker (the father of actress Zoë Wanamaker). He makes a brief appearance at the beginning when he is discussing with Andrew Pennington what they ought to do next after they read about the marriage of Linnet Doyle.
