In the short story The Girl in the Train, Stürm is the chancellor of the Balkan kingdom of Catonia. He objected to the marriage between the Grand Duchess Anastasia of Catonia and Lord Roland Gaigh and he caught up with the couple in Paris, intending to carry the Grand Duchess back home to marry Prince Karl, her cousin. It is not confirmed in the text, but Stürm could be the older of the two men who confronted George Rowland at his hotel in Portsmouth and demanded to be told the whereabouts of the Grand Duchess. There the older man was described as a grey-haired, pompous gentleman who spoke excellent English.
