In A Murder is Announced, Sister McClelland is a nurse who looks after Belle Goedler in Scotland. Belle affectionately refers to her as "Mac".

Sister McClelland tells Inspector Dermot Craddock that Belle Goedler is looking forward to his visit. She also informs him that Belle is a dying woman. She says that Belle would talk and enjoy talking, but would tire suddenly, as she was kept almost entirely under the influence of morphia. In preparation for Craddock's visit, Sister McClelland had given Belle a strong stimulant. However, when the stimulant wore off, Belle would tire quickly. When that happened, Craddock was to withdraw, and fetch her.

When Inspector Craddock asks if Belle had any old photographs, Sister McClelland informs him that all of Belle's personal papers and things had been stored with the furniture from the London house during the war, and everything had been lost when the storage facility was blitzed.

Portrayals[]

In the BBC 1985 adaptation of the novel which formed part of the Miss Marple series, Nurse McClelland is played by Kay Gallie.

In the ITV 2005 adaptation of the novel, Nurse McClelland is played by Lesley Nicol. Similar to the novel, she explains to Inspector Craddock that Belle Goedler would enjoy talking, but would tire very suddenly, as she was kept under the influence of morphine. In this adaptation, it is Belle Goedler herself who tells Inspector Craddock about the old photographs being destroyed when the storage facility was blitzed, not Sister McClelland.
