In the Harley Quin short story The Sign in the Sky, Sir George Barnaby is the elderly husband of the murder victim in the story Vivien Barnaby. They live together at Deering Hill, a village near London. Sir George is presumbably a businessman or financier as he commutes to work and has an office in the City of London.
Mr Satterthwaite describes Sir George as "obese, purse-proud" and "perpetually fussing over the little things in life". He wound up his clocks himself every Friday and did up his own housekeeping books. He personally locked up his house every night. Sir George's miserliness contributed to the tension between himself and his wife and towards the end, Lady Barnaby, much younger than her husband, was desparately unhappy and hated him.
According to multiple witnesses, Sir George was away at a bridge party a few houses away during the time Lady Barnaby was shot. The household servants found the body and one of them went to give Sir George the news and met him just outside the gate.
