In the short story The Last Seance, Simone is a famous Parisien medium whose services are in demand by clients who are convinced that she is no trickster, and also by scientists because they what to study the phenomena that she brings about. However years of seances have worn her out and she very much wants to retire.
There is one last seance on her appointment book. for one Madame Exe who wants to make contact with her late daughter Amelie. Simone has a deep sense of foreboding and impending danger about this coming session and wants to put it off. However her fiance Raoul Daubreuil persuades her to carry on, as does Madame Exe who argues that she has been promised. What happens next forms the main plot of the story.
Simone is described as "a tall, fair woman came in. She was slender and graceful, with the face of a Botticelli Madonna."
