In the novel The Body in the Library, Selina Blake is the mother of Basil Blake. Dolly Bantry went to school with her, and is envious of her herbaceous borders. She is generous with her cuttings.

Mrs Blake is mentioned in both the BBC 1984 adaptation of the novel and the ITV 2004 adaptation but does not appear in person. In both cases, Dolly Bantry made the point that it was quite unthinkable that Basil Blake could be a criminal because his mother was such a nice person.
