In the novel A Caribbean Mystery, Señora de Caspearo is a Venezuelan woman on holiday on St Honoré. She opposes ugliness, and therefore Major Palgrave and Jason Rafiel. She expresses the opinion that old men are ugly, and that they should all be put to death at forty, or perhaps thirty-five.

Señora de Caspearo remarks on Major Palgrave's glass eye as an evil eye, and says that she used to make the Sign of the Horns every time he looked her way. However, because he was cross-eyed, she was not always sure when he was looking her way.
