Scamper is a non-canonical character created for the 2004 ITV adaptation of the novel The Body in the Library. He is an assistant or secretary to Colonel Melchett, the Chief Constable of Radfordshire Police. In this position, Scamper is likely to be a policeman but his rank is not given. In the show, he takes notes while Colonel Melchett is examining the body and later reads out a list of missing persons for his chief (in the original novel, Inspector Slack performs this task). Scamper's list is the same as Slack's: Mrs Barnard (a 65 year old woman), Pamela Reeves (16, dark brown hair, 5 ft 5) and Mrs Saunders (36 year old woman). Scamper has approximately the same line about Mrs Saunders as Slack: Everyone knows, except her husband, that she's gone off with a salesman from Leeds. Scamper doesn't play any further part in the investigation.
