In the novel Towards Zero, Saltington is a market town with a train station and some shops, seven miles from Saltcreek. If one wishes to travel between Saltcreek and Easterhead Bay by car, the road is sixteen miles and goes through Saltington. There is a bus service between Saltington and Easterhead Bay.

Angus MacWhirter left his soiled suit at the 24-Hour cleaners in Saltington. When he came to pick it up more than 48 hours later it hadn't been cleaned. The angered MacWhirter took the uncleaned suit back to his hotel room, only to find that he had been given the wrong suit back. The suit he was given smelled the same way as Don, Diana Brinton's dog, had smelled.

Based on the map in the novel, Saltington corresponds to the real world town of Kingsbridge in the South Hams district of Devon.
