Agatha Christie Wiki

In the stage play The Unexpected Guest, Richard Warwick was the husband of Laura Warwick. He was a former big-game hunter, and met Laura in Kenya and married shortly after meeting each other. However two years after the marriage, he was mauled by a lion which left him wheelchair bound.

According to Laura, Richard was a different person before the accident--he had generosity and courage and he was very attractive to women. However his bad qualities emerged thereafter: vindictiveness, a streak of sadism and alcoholism. Every night before retiring, he would sit in his study drinking liquor. A collector of weapons, he would always have a gun beside him and would periodically take pot shots at animals which he spotted through the windows.

Richard appears in Act 1 Scene 1 but does not have a speaking part as he is found dead at the beginning of the play.
