In the short story The Flock of Geryon, the Reverend Thomas Carnaby was the late father of Emily and Amy Carnaby. When discussing the religious cult leader Dr Andersen with Hercule Poirot, Amy recalled that her father, like Dr Andersen, was also a very handsome man. This had apparently caused some awkwardness in the parish, generating rivalries among the women parishioners in such matters as the division of church work, the embroidering of vestments and so on. In the same way, most of Dr Andersen's followers seemed to be women.

In an earlier story The Nemean Lion, Emily Carnaby said his parish was Kellington in Essex.
