In the novel Why Didn't They Ask Evans?, Reeves is a message boy of about seventeen from Staverley. While riding his bicycle, he is the first to come across Frankie Derwent in her staged car crash just outside Merroway Court. He helps George Arbuthnot carry Frankie into Merroway Court.
Later, he more or less blows Frankie's cover when he tells Dr Nicholson that he was coming from Staverley on his bicycle and no car had passed yet. Yet when he comes upon the "crash", Dr Arbuthnot's car was stopped near Frankie and pointed in the same direction as he was going.
