Richard Austin Freeman, MRCS, LSA (11 April 1862 – 28 September 1943) was a British physician and author of crime fiction. His lead character in many novels and short stories is the forensic investigator Dr Thorndyke, who is mentioned in Why Didn't They Ask Evans? Freeman is credited at the inventor of the inverted detective story.[1]
