In the short story Jane in Search of a Job, Princess Anna Michaelovna Poporensky is a middle-aged woman who served as lady-in-waiting to the Grand Duchess Pauline of Ostrava. The princess and her colleage Count Streptitch tested Jane Cleveland and concluded that she was well suited to the role of impersonating the Grand Duchess as a precaution against assassination. The Grand Duchess who employed Jane turned out to be an imposter herself and a robber. Likewise the Princess Poporensky is an imposter and a member of her gang.
The princess was described as a "short middle-aged lady". She was "plump and extremely ugly, but had nevertheless the air of being a person of importance."
