Peter Sallis (1921-2017) was an English actor. He played Carter, the butler, in the 1982 film Witness for the Prosecution. He also played Hercule Poirot in the 1986 BBC Radio adaptation Hercule Poirot's Christmas.
Sallis is best remembered for playing Norman Clegg in Last of the Summer Wine for its entire 37 year run, and for being the original voice of Wallace in Wallace & Gromit.
