In the radio play Personal Call, Pam Brent is married to James. The day before, her husband had received a long distance call from Newton Abbot which upset him but he refused to talk about it. The second day, Pam eavesdrops when a similar call comes through. Like the previous call, it's a mysterious woman "Fay". She wants to meet him at the station at 7.15. She confronts James who tells her "Fay" is the name he used to call his late first wife who died a year ago. She had been suffering from dizzy spells and had fallen onto an oncoming train at Newton Abbot. However he dismisses the whole sequence of events and wants to concentrate on their forthcoming holiday in France. Pam is left puzzled because she thought his previous wife was "Florence".
The mystery deepens with a call from her solicitor Mr Enderby who calls to tell her he has received her will and also asks whether she had recovered from her "dizzy spells".
