In the novel Curtain, Nurse Craven is a young woman of approximately thirty years of age with auburn hair, and the nurse who attends to Barbara Franklin. She was described as being a "tall, good-looking young woman with a fine colour and a handsome head of auburn hair". Her hands were "long and white–very different from the hands of so many hospital nurses". She was "in some respects a taciturn girl" and her manner was "perhaps a little on the arch and sprightly side". However, overall she was pleasant and intelligent.
She tells Hastings that one of her patients had been poisoned and she had to give evidence before the court; she remarked how it made her feel "queer". She also said that she would have never forgotten that.
Nurse Craven later attends to Daisy Luttrell after she has been shot by her husband, which irritated Barbara Franklin because she was used to be the "invalid en-chef".
She has an affair with Major Allerton, much to Hastings' surprise, who thought Allerton was having an affair with Judith Hastings.
