In the short story The Gate of Baghdad, Netta Pryce is a passenger travelling from Damascus to Baghdad on the same bus as Parker Pyne. She was on a trip to the Middle East with her aunt Miss Pryce. Netta and Flight Lieutenant O'Rourke, a fellow passenger, had developed an attraction for each other. Netta was described as "youngest and most charming of the tourist race" who managed to enjoy her trip "in many frivolous ways" which her stern and conservative aunt might not have approved.
