Actress Liz Crowther as Myrna Harris

In the novel A Murder is Announced, Myrna Harris is a waitress at the grill at the Royal Spa Hotel, in Medenham Wells. She was the girlfriend of Rudi Scherz.

Myrna is described as "a pretty girl with a glorious head of red hair and a pert nose". According to Miss Marple, she is an excellent waitress.

Role In Novel[]

Myrna worked at the same hotel that Rudi Scherz, they clearly were seeing each other, after hearing of his death, it clearly has affected her, Miss Marple senses she's hiding something and she tells Inspector Craddock to interview her privately. Harris speaks to Craddock admitting that she was scared her truth would in-criminal her as Rudi's accomplice or at least that's what her Mother believed, Craddock lets her know that it won't happened, she reveals that Rudi told her that someone was paying him to play "a little English joke", on somebody, he never told her who and from his relaxed attitude she knew he had every intention of coming back alive.

This lets Craddock know that Rudi Scherz clearly wasn't the attempted murderer of Letitia Blacklock somebody else could have and have a motive to kill her.


In the BBC 1985 adaptation of the novel which formed part of the Miss Marple series, Myrna Harris is played by Liz Crowther. This portrayal is faithful to the original.

In the ITV 2005 adaptation of the novel, Myrna Harris is played by Nicole Lewis. In this adaptation, her interview with Inspector Craddock is not shown.

In Murder Party, the TV film adaptation of the novel by France Télévisions, the parallel character is Josette Bianconi.
