In the novel Mrs McGinty's Dead, Mrs Scott was the elderly housekeeper at "Crossways", home of the Dr and Mrs Rendell in Broadhinny. Dr Rendell described her as an excellent worker but as she was elderly and could not get down on her knees very well, they employed Mrs McGinty to come once a week to do the extra cleaning such as polishing the brasses and scrubbing the kitchen floor.

On the night of Laura Upward's death, it was Mrs Scott who took the telephone message from Mrs Upward asking Mrs Rendell to go over to keep her company.
