In the BBC 1986 adaptation of the novel which formed part of the Miss Marple series, Hawes' landlady's name is changed to Mrs Salisbury. She is played by Deddie Davies and she has a larger role in the film than in the novel. Here she sets up Miss Marple's strategem to entrap the murderer by calling him and pretending that she had seen him with Hawes who has been found poisoned. The murderer then comes over and attempts to kill her while she is sleeping, only to find that Inspector Slack and his men are waiting for him.

In the ITV 2004 adaptation of the novel (Episode 2, Season 1 of Agatha Christie's Marple), Mrs Salisbury is not featured. There is no strategem involving a call from her to the murderer. The confessions were extracted in a different, more direct manner.
