In the novel N or M?, Mrs Rowley is Deborah Beresford's landlady.
When Deborah discovers that a photograph of her mother is missing from her room, she asks Mrs Rowley what happened to it. Mrs Rowley is "aggrieved and resentful", and says that she had not touched the photograph. She suggests that Gladys might know what happened to it.
