In the authorised Miss Marple continuation short story Evil in Small Places, Mrs Prufrock is the former choirmistress of the church in Meon Maltravers. Although she had held the position for some thirty years, she was dismissed by the vicar Reverend Peabody who replaced her with a new choirmistress who had recently arrived in the village. To add insult to injury, the new choirmistress then insisted that Mrs Prufrock should no longer sing soprano parts because she could not hit the top notes. Mrs Prufrock is described as "a faded little woman in the clothes of a previous decade".
