In the novel At Bertram's Hotel, Mrs Posselthwaite was a woman from Somerset who stayed at Bertram's Hotel at the same time as Miss Marple.
She, like Lady Berry, Sybil Kerr and possibly Lady Selina Hazy were among the type of old ladies which the hotel gave special rates to stay so that they could bring some "atmosphere" to the establishment. See Lady Berry for details.
