In the short story The Affair at the Bungalow, Mrs Pebmarsh is woman, probably a resident of St. Mary Mead mentioned by Miss Marple as a possible village parallel for the situation described by Jane Helier. Mrs Pebmarsh was a laundress. She had apparently stolen an opal pin that was pinned into a blouse belonging to a customer. She then put it in another woman's house, presumably to implicate her. Thinking further, Miss Marple realised that this parallel did not help much in elucidating the puzzle posed by Jane Helier.
