In the short story The King of Clubs, Mrs Oglander was the mother of the family which lived in "Daisymead", the neighbour of "Mon Désir", the mansion belonging to Henry Reedburn. Poirot later learnt that she was the mother of Valerie Saintclair.

Her testimony that she was facing the window and was the first to see Valerie contradicted that of her daughter Miss Oglander and led Poirot to conclude that the Oglanders were not telling the whole truth.
