In the short story The Thumb Mark of St. Peter, a Mrs Jones is mentioned by Jane Marple. An incident where someone cut the meshes of her string bag was thought by everyone as "insignificant" but Miss Marple found it a useful study of human nature, although she does not elaborate how this was the case.
