In the novel The Seven Dials Mystery, Mrs Howell is the housekeeper at Chimneys. Lady Coote found her intimidating during the time the Cootes had rented Chimneys. On the other hand "Bundle" gets along very well with Mrs Howell. Bundle calls her "Howelly" and approaches her for all the household news such as the background of new servants who had joined the household during the time Chimneys had been rented out.
