In the novel Murder is Easy, Mrs Church was the aunt of Amy Gibbs. Luke Fitzwilliam went to see Mrs Church to get background information on the late Amy. Luke found Mrs Church an unpleasant person. She had "a sharp nose, shifty eyes and ... a voluble tongue." Luke tried a curt manner with Mrs Church and was pleasantly surprised that it worked very well. She was very forthcoming with details of the various men Amy had gone around with and the history of Amy with her various employers. Later she mentioned that she assumed there was a reward for helping the police and tell Luke about her suspicions of Mr Ellsworthy and his strange rituals. At the close of the interview, Mrs Church hinted that she expected some payment but Luke ignored it.
