In the short story Tape-Measure Murder, Mrs Blade is the postmistress in St. Mary Mead. The post-office/shop which she managed was one of only two places in St. Mary Mead with a public telephone. In discussing how a hoax call could have been made to Miss Marple, both Inspector Slack and Colonel Melchett dismiss the idea that it could have been done from the post-office because Mrs Blade would have seen everybody who came in. They did not know that at 2.30 p.m., when the bus from Much Benham arrived outside, Mrs Blade would rush out to meet the bus.
Portrayals[]
Mrs Blade is depicted in the anime show Tape-Measure Murder, NHK's adaptation of story of the same name. In this adaptation, Mrs Blade actually has a short conversation with Miss Marple who had arrived at the post-office. When the Much Benham bus turns up, Mrs Blade rushes out and we see her selling candy and other items to the passengers. Although she has a speaking part, the actress who voiced the character is not credited.
