In the novel Elephants Can Remember, Mrs Barnaby was mentioned by Mrs Matcham. She used to work for the Barnabys out in Malacca. Mr and Mrs Barnaby had two children, a boy and a girl. The boy went to Harrow and the girl went to Roedean. Even after the children went to school, Mrs Matcham stayed with the family. She was still there when the Ravenscrofts died.
The Barnabys were acquaintances of Alistair and Margaret Ravenscroft and Mrs Barnaby knew Ariadne Oliver.
